CEA to Honor Best in CE Design, Engineering

Submissions accepted through Sept. 24

The Consumer Electronics Association is accepting entries through Sept. 24 for its 2011 International CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards.

The annual contest honors design and engineering in 35 consumer electronics product categories. Reflecting changing industry trends, two product categories are new: major home appliances and portable home appliances. Things like refrigerators and washers and dryers have a lot of electronics in them now. In fact, sometimes I have to outwit those electronics in my home washer and dryer to get what I want accomplished, but that’s another story.

The 2011 Best of Innovations Honorees will be announced on Nov. 9 and shown off at the Jan. 6-9 convention in Las Vegas. CEA sponsors the awards.

A panel of engineers, independent designers and journalists evaluate the devices, which are nominated by product developers and manufacturers.

The Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Awards program is open to consumer electronics companies, regardless of CES exhibitor status. Products entered must be available for sale or accessible to the public in U.S. retail outlets or on the Internet between April 1, 2010, and April 1, 2011. Register before Sept. 8 and save $200.
