A satellite merger would mean a boost in chip sales for semiconductor companies as suppliers rush to make receivers compatible with both satellite systems.
So reports EE Times, which wrote about the possible implications of the merger on the chip side. “The choice will be gone for the companies that have been providing the technology behind those radios,” it quoted one observer.
Another said that if the new company decides to integrate the baseband and tuner on one chip, ST Microelectronics will be in the “enviable position of being able to do so with a minimal learning curve.”
