Clear Channel Radio will begin a phased upgrade of the Emergency Alert System equipment at every station immediately. The upgrade is to incorporate new and recently FCC approved event and location codes into EAS encoders/decoders.
One of the codes to be added is the Child Abduction Emergency Code that would activate local, regional or national Amber Plans. The Amber Plan is an early warning system to help find abducted children. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children is spearheading the Amber Plan nationwide.
NCMEC President/CEO Ernie Allen stated, “U.S Department of Justice statistics show that in 74% of abduction homicides, the child is murdered within the first three hours. This new code will mobilize communities to respond much faster and will ultimately help save innocent lives.”
Clear Channel expects to complete its EAS upgrade by the end of the year.
