Clear Channel, LivingSocial Partnering on Discounts

Companies join forces to bring listeners daily deals

Clear Channel Radio and marketing firm LivingSocial are teaming up to offer discounts to radio listeners.

The companies say their exclusive agreement begins next Monday on 500 Clear Channel Radio stations.

Throughout each day, local station air staff will describe the LivingSocial daily deal for their market. The deals are also accessible through Clear Channel Radio station websites. In addition to daily deal announcements, Clear Channel will feature other LivingSocial offerings, including LivingSocial Escapes and Adventures packages, across its media platforms.

LivingSocial will handle fulfillment and the radio broadcaster will get a commission from the sales, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Journal noted that this is in contrast to Cumulus Media’s announcement last month that it would expand its in-house Sweetjack daily deal site because the Clear Channel-LivingSocial arrangement uses its own dedicated sales force, rather than using a station’s sales personnel.

Clear Channel Radio says it will potentially steer 80 million listeners a week toward the LivingSocial deals.

The broadcaster had previously tried to create its own daily-deals service, but dropped that effort. “We’re not in the business of fulfilling those coupons,” Clear Channel Radio President/CEO John Hogan told the WSJ.

LivingSocial says it serves 46 million members in 603 daily deal markets worldwide.
