Clear Channel Puts Its Heart on the Pad

Pittman says company has ‘reimagined the iHeartRadio App experience’

Spreading its multiplatform reach further, Clear Channel Radio said users of the popular Apple iPad can now access iHeartRadio via a new app.

The iHeartRadio App for iPad lets users listen to the company’s 750 online stations, plus its additional online commercial-free stations. Clear Channel said the app is the number one free music app at the App Store and number five on the overall list of free apps.

Clear Channel’s Robert Pittman said the app takes advantage of iPad’s screen size and “wonderfully simple and intuitive interface.” For Pittman, the offering is a big deal, “the most complete and engaging digital radio experience possible.” He said in the announcement that this app “recasts the radio experience in a compelling visual way, and enables users to engage more deeply with their favorite stations and favorite artists.”

Features include sharing stations and videos via social media; displaying a station’s Twitter feed when users listen to the station; and previewing what a station is playing by pressing its logo.

The app can be streamed wirelessly via AirPlay to Apple TV from iPad. Stations are streamed in ACC format.
