Clear Channel Talks Content Distribution With Yahoo, Apple, Microsoft ...

Clear Channel says it is exploring content distribution deals with Yahoo, Apple and Microsoft, reports Reuters, which quotes radio CEO John Hogan saying agreements with Yahoo or Apple’s iTunes music and video online store could be in place in early 2006.
In figuring out how to compete with increased competition in the dashboard, Clear Channel considered a subscription-based model but ultimately rejected it “because it doesn’t make sense” for commercial radio, deciding to bolster its advertiser-supported business, reported Reuters.
Like their satellite counterparts, terrestrial radio broadcasters seek new ways to distribute content, such as cell phones or digital devices. Ibiquity Digital, too, has been pursuing this goal so stations transmitting a digital signal could be heard on a variety of digital devices.
