Clear Channel Upgrades iHeartRadio iPad App

Customized stations, improved use of Retina display part of new features

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment upgraded its iPad app for the iHeartRadio Internet audio streaming service.

It says that the first noticeable thing about the app is a new look. But it is personalization aspects that are likely to get the most attention in this new Pandora-aware world. The app adds custom station options for creating personalized stations based on a particular song or artist. Once set as a custom station iHeartRadio will match with similar artists or songs. Also, the range of similarity can be adjusted so that new songs and artists can be discovered.

The new iPad app also makes better use of the iPad’s Retina high-definition display for a brighter and more detailed GUI. Facebook integration is also “deeper,” according to the release.

According to the company the overall intelligence of the iHeartRadio system has been increased. Clear Channel says that the iHeartRadio app provides access to 14 million songs, 400,000 artists and more than 800 radio broadcast stations from 150 cities.

The company emphasized the growth of iHeartRadio in its quarterly financial report today.
