CNN Sues Dial Global

Broadcaster says it’s owed more than $2 million

CNN is suing the company that now owns the former Westwood One for more than $2 million.

Westwood merged with Dial Global in 2011. In a lawsuit filed Friday in a New York court, CNN alleges Dial Global breached a contract.

Both companies amended a 2009 distribution agreement for radio programming in 2011. CNN was to provide programming for distribution and Westwood One would make quarterly payments for that audio. The 2009 deal was to expire at the end of December 2012 and CNN would stop providing programming at the end of March 2012.

CNN alleges that Westwood made two quarterly payments in 2012, but not the last two payments of $1.75 million each, which were due in August and November.

CNN says it’s owed no less than $2.35 million; it wants that amount, plus its attorney’s fees paid.

Dial Global has not answered the suit, according to published accounts.
