Comments Due Soon on NPR’s LPTV Petition

It has asked FCC to clarify protection of NCE FM stations

The digital transition of LPTV stations is a matter of interest in radio too.

Comments are due Nov. 30 regarding several petitions for reconsideration that involve that digital transition.

In one, NPR asked the FCC to clarify that LPTV stations are obligated to protect all NCE FM radio stations from interference and include that obligation in its rules governing the LPTV service. Other petitions for reconsideration include filings from Hammett & Edison and the National Translator Association.

These are petitions in the rulemaking proceeding concerning the Second Report and Order, FCC 11-110, in MB Docket 03-185. That Report and Order, issued in July, set out a digital transition timetable for Class A TV, low-power television and TV translators.

Comments to the FCC in opposition to those petitions are due Nov. 30 and replies by Dec. 12.
