Comments on XM's Wireless Acquisition Due

The FCC has put XM’s application to acquire assets of WCS Wireless terrestrial licenses for spectrum on public notice. Petitions to Deny on Report 2209 are due Aug. 3.
NAB opposes the deal, saying the company was licensed as a national service only.
In its public interest statement, XM says the acquisition would give the satcaster access to WCS spectrum covering 163 million consumers in 15 of the top 20 markets and develop a system capable of provide a range of new mobile multimedia subscription services. Markets listed include Denver, Cleveland, Kansas City and Detroit.
XM plans to acquire the assets of WCS Wireless in exchange for XM stock.
The deal needs regulatory approval, and the companies hope to close the acquisition by the end of the year.
