Commissioners to Speak at NAB2003

FCC Commissioners Republican Kathleen Abernathy and Democrat Michael Copps plan to discuss regulatory issues facing broadcasters during “The Regulatory Face-Off” April 8 at NAB2003 in Las Vegas. The commissioners will address topics such as media ownership and the transition to digital radio.

Prior to her FCC appointment, Abernathy was vice president of public policy at BroadBand Office Communications Inc. Abernathy also held several positions at the FCC, including stints as a legal advisor to interim Chairman Jim Quello, legal advisor to Commissioner Sherrie Marshall, and special assistant to the FCC’s General Counsel.

Copps served until January 2001 as assistant secretary of commerce for trade development at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He also served on the staff of Sen. Ernest Hollings, D-S.C.
