Community Broadcasting Libraries Set Up in Bangladesh

Libraries being organized at 16 community radio stations

Bangladesh broadcasters will now have a community-broadcasting library available to them as a resource at 16 community radio stations.

Each library serves as a knowledge center to help approximately 1000 rural broadcasters, trainers and volunteers gain more knowledge and skill. The libraries will have support from the European Union, Free Press Unlimited and Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communications.

BNNRC will provide one bookshelf of books to each station library. The books will cover topics like the right to information, how to ensure participation and sustainability of a radio station, effective programming, financial management and capacity strengthening of radio practitioners. Other sources of information on mass media and development will also be available.

The hope of the libraries is to build awareness and strengthen understanding among the media practitioners, which will help them introduce media literacy into the community.
