Community Radio Activists to Meet in Ames

Grassroots Radio Conference is resurrected

Since founded in 1996, the Grassroots Radio Conference has missed a couple of annuals, but 2014 won’t be one.

Scheduled for Ames, Iowa, and hosted by local community station KHOI(FM), the conference “is an annual gathering of people who work and/or love community radio, to learn skills, discuss issues and have fun.”

On the agenda are workshops and sessions covering most aspects of running a radio station — technical, engineering, program production, news production, new technology, management, operations and special attention to LPFMs. There will also be activities for Pacifica Network affiliates.

The keynote speaker will be David Barsamian, founder and director of Alternative Radio, a weekly audio series. He has worked with Noam Chomsky, Tariq Ali, Howard Zinn and Edward Said.
