A Senate Commerce Committee hearing on radio consolidation that had been set for this Wednesday was postponed.
The committee is set to vote on several bills on Thursday (June 26). It could take up Chairman John McCain’s measure to reauthorize the FCC then.
Sen. Fritz Hollings, D-S.C., co-sponsors the measure, which would lengthen the time between review of the media ownership rules and give the agency more flexibility to keep, eliminate, strengthen or weaken the rules.
The measure, if passed, would increase by a factor of 10 how much the agency could levy in fines, and directs Congress to set aside enough funding to cover the commission’s travel budget.
