The New York Festivals recently awarded “Contact” Radio the Gold World Medal for the show “Through the Eyes of Love.” “Contact” is a weekly public affairs radio program produced in St. Louis.
The piece is the story of how a visually impaired man and his guide dog managed to escape the North Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, navigating 78 flights of stairs and leading others to safety.
The show, produced by Amy Chase and edited by Jim Hone, won first place for Best Human Interest Story in the International Radio Programming & Promotions category. The Gold World Medal was awarded at a ceremony in New York last month.
