Copper Thieves Knock KMBI Off Air

Investigation continues into the theft affecting Spokane AM

Moody Broadcasting’sKMBI(AM), Spokane, Wash., was knocked off the air by copper thieves.

The investigation continues, according to UPI.

The wire service quotes the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as saying thieves pulled the station’s transmission wires off the tower and the theft would cost the station “thousands” of dollars to rewire the tower and get back on the air. It normally broadcasts on 1330 kHz.

The theft was noticed Sunday morning when station employees noticed one of the tower monitors was out and they called police. “Further investigation by the employee revealed numerous wires had been stripped from the tower,” according to the account.

KMBI has an FM operation on 107.9 MHz that was not affected.
