The Country Radio Seminar, Feb. 27–March 1, 2013 in Nashville, Tenn., will feature the 2013 class for the Country Radio Hall of Fame.
The Radio Category inductee is Gaylon Christie, a five-decade Texas broadcast vet whose jobs have ranged from teenage DJ to station owner.
The “On-Air” category has more members. Eddie Edwards has been DJing in major markets before many of his listeners were born, starting in 1971. He’s worked in L.A., New York and New Orleans. He’s been a “DJ of the Year” award winner from most every major country music organization. He’s also a pro-level musician who’s played on-stage with a number of country music stars.
Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase go in as a pair known for several country music best of and countdown shows that have aired nationally and internationally since 1987. Their current gig is “Crook & Chase Countdown,” airing on some 225 stations.
Dr. Don Carpenter has spent 30 years working the mic, including time in Tampa, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and most famously Detroit, at WOW/WYCD(FM). He’s also helmed nationally syndicated country music shows and the former veterinarian has produced “Dr. Don’s Prep Sheet,” show prep material for over 20 years.
Bill Poindexter has been at Chattanooga’s WUSY(FM) since 1994. Dex’s latest US-101 show is the “Dex & Mo Show,” a winner of the Country Music Association Radio Personality of the Year Award in 2010 (Dex’s third). Dex also spent time as an A&R man for ABC, United Artists and RCA record labels. He hung around with artists ranging from the Jefferson Starship and Jimmy Buffett to Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings and Kenny Rogers.
