CPB Awards Grant for New England News Collaborative

Eight public media stations to form regional news collaboration

A grant of $625,538 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting has been awarded to eight public media stations across New England to establish the New England News Collaboration. The group will be led by the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network.

In addition to the CPBN, the collaborative will include WBUR in Boston, Maine Public Broadcasting Network, New Hampshire Public Radio, Vermont Public Radio, New England Public Radio, Rhode Island Public Radio and WSHU Public Radio in Fairfield, Conn. The NENC will produce multimedia coverage regarding the region’s energy usage, climate, transportation infrastructure, people and immigration issues.

As part of the partnership, the NENC will produce reporting projects for on-air, digital and web presentations, as well as a series of town hall meetings. The grant will also help support the hiring of a managing editor, seven reporters, a multimedia reporter, a data journalist and a project coordinator/administrator.

The CPB has previously awarded grants for similar collaborations for the Great Lakes and Ohio River regions, as well as Arkansas and Illinois.
