Cumulus Announces Midwest Personnel Changes

Lassman heads to Minneapolis as KXXR’s PD, Kling will stay in Chicago, new lineup at KARN

Cumulus Media has appointed John Lassman as program director of KXXR(FM) in Minneapolis, and the company has also signed WKQX(FM) Chicago Program Director PJ Kling to a new multiyear contract.

Lassman moves from TownSquare Buffalo, N.Y., where he was regional operations manager, brand manager of WJYE(FM) and WBUF(FM) and Buffalo operations manager. He replaces Wade Linder who was transferred to Cumulus Chicago. A native of Minneapolis, Lassman was assistant program director at sister station KQRS(FM) nearly 25 years ago, before being promoted to program director of KXXR(FM) and WGVX(FM). He then served WRIF(FM) Detroit as director of marketing, followed by stints as program director of WRXL(FM) Richmond, Va., and director of FM programming for CBS Radio/Minneapolis.

PJ Kling

Kling has served as PD of WKQX since 2012. He was interim operations manager of Chicago’s WLUP(FM) from 2011–2012, and prior to that, was director of user insight for Tribune Interactive. He has held program director positions at WLDI(FM) in West Palm Beach and at KKRD(FM)/KZCH(FM) in Wichita, Kan. Kling also worked in programming for Clear Channel Corporate.

In other Cumulus news, Little Rock, Ark.’s KARN(FM) news, weather and traffic station, has a new local programming lineup for mornings and afternoons.

Doc Washburn

“First News with Kevin Miller” kicks off weekdays from 5:30–9 a.m., with traffic and weather every 10 minutes, local news updates every 15 minutes, local sports updates and daily commentaries from Mike Huckabee and Rush Limbaugh. Miller is a market veteran taking over as permanent morning show host. A native of Little Rock, he has been a part of Little Rock’s radio stations for more than 25 years.

Beginning July 7, Doc Washburn hosts a new local show weekdays from 2–6 p.m., featuring a blend of news, commentary and entertainment. Doc comes to KARN from WBT(AM/FM) in Charlotte, N.C. Prior to that he was a talk radio host in markets, including Savannah, Ga., Panama City, Fla., and Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
