Cumulus Makes Several Programming and Sales Appointments

New year, new leaders in Michigan, Wisconsin, Chicago, Louisiana and Minnesota

Cumulus Media has named Chris Monk as regional vice president for the company’s nine radio stations in Saginaw and Flint, Mich., as well as market manager for Cumulus’ four-station cluster in Saginaw and work with the team in Flint to maximize regional opportunities.

Monk was formerly market manager for the same stations from 2007–2012, under the previous ownership by Citadel Broadcasting. He rejoins the stations from Adams Radio Group in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was VP and market manager. Prior to that, Monk was senior vice president and chief operating officer of Alliance 180 LLC, in Boyne City, Mich., and also served as VP and general manager for Northern Star Broadcasting in Traverse City/Petoskey, Mich.

Don Pollnow

The company has also appointed Don Pollnow as vice president/market manager for its six-station group in Green Bay, Wis. He joins Cumulus from LM Communications in Lexington, Ky., where he was national sales manager. Prior to that, he held general manager positions for NRG Media in Wausau/Stevens Point, Wis., and for Renda Broadcasting in Oklahoma City, Okla. Pollnow was also general manager for Clear Channel Radio in Little Rock, Ark., and was general manager for Cumulus Media Topeka, Kan., from 1999–2004.

Cumulus has also appointed three programming professionals to positions at Chicago’s WKQX(FM). Christine “Nicci” Nunez has been named executive producer for “Brian & Lou in the Morning.” Mishell Livio takes on part-time weekend on-air duties. Los Angeles comedian Greg Beharrell will headline a Saturday night show, which will be launched soon. Nunez joins Cumulus Media-Chicago from Cox Radio’s WHPT(FM) in Tampa, Fla., where she produced “Drew Garabo Live.” Livio previously worked with Cumulus at alternative outlet KHTB(FM) in Salt Lake City, and prior to that, at KFMA(FM) in Tucson.

Cody Welling

The company also named Cody Welling as VP/market manager for its five radio stations in Shreveport and Bossier City, La. He most recently worked as director of sales for the eight-station Cumulus cluster in Toledo/Monroe, Ohio, where he also served as general sales manager. He has also worked for Great Plains Media as general sales manager and director of sales in Bloomington/Normal, Ill. Additionally, Welling has worked as local sales manager for ESPN Radio in Toledo, Ohio.

The company has tapped “Zannie K.” to serve as assistant program director and afternoon drive host for WGVX(FM) in Minneapolis, Minn. His show debuted on Jan. 30, and airs weekdays from 4–7 p.m. He also hosts “Zannie K’s Throwback Theory” on 1 on Saturday nights at 10 p.m. In addition, he will host the Sunday midday show for Westwood One’s 24/7 AC, hot AC and top 40 affiliates. Zannie had previously worked on-air at KDWB(FM) and the former KTTB(FM) for four and seven years, respectively. He also worked for three years as assistant program director/music director at iHeartMedia Austin’s KHFI(FM) and KPEZ(FM), WPYO(FM) in Orlando and most recently, three years as music director and on-air personality, evenings, at KCLD(FM) in St. Cloud, Minn.
