It has been a year since Austria launched 15 DAB+ radio stations in the greater Vienna area, reaching about 2.5 million.
Gernot Fischer, CEO of Digital Radio Austria, has claimed that time to be a success and as a result has announced that the second year of the program will offer 16 DAB+ stations, subject to regulatory approval.
The focus of the second year of digital radio in Austria is said to be additional data services like traffic information services in the TPEG standard and public protection and disaster warning services (EWS).
The Austrian media authority KommAustria is expected to announce its digitization concept no later than the first half of 2017, allowing further advancement of the country’s digital plans in 2018.
