David Kansas Is New COO for American Public Media Group

St. Paul native, WSJ alum to focus on strategic growth

David Kansas is the new chief operating officer of the American Public Media Group, the parent company of Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media.

He succeeds Jon McTaggart, who took over as chief executive officer July 1.

The St. Paul, Minn., native held a variety of positions with Dow Jones & Company and The Wall Street Journal. Kansas was a reporter, online deputy managing editor, European markets editor and, most recently, chief markets commentator. He also was editor of “Money and Investing” and was on the founding team of TheStreet.com.

McTaggart said Kansas’ experience building and leading digital media companies and his planning and business development skills would make him a great addition to the senior team.

APMG is the parent company of the 42-station radio network Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media, which distributes public radio programming, including “Marketplace,” “Performance Today” and “A Prairie Home Companion.”

It also is the parent company of Southern California Public Radio in Los Angeles, Classical South Florida in Miami, the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul and a for-profit custom publishing firm, the Greenspring Company, in Minneapolis.
