Dawson and Rackley to Receive NAB Engineering Honor

Ben Dawson and Ron Rackley are well-known to the hard-core technical people who toil — mostly behind the radio scenes — to build and maintain radio’s broadcast infrastructure. Now they’ll be the ones in the limelight at NAB.
The consulting engineers have been named by NAB to receive its Radio Engineering Achievement Award in April. The TV recipient is S. Merrill Weiss.
“Dawson and Rackley are icons in the field of AM broadcast antenna system design and optimization,” NAB stated in its announcement via its TechCheck newsletter.
“They have presented seminars on this topic at many NAB Radio Shows and are well known to most radio broadcasters. Although Ben and Ron work for different consulting firms, they have recently formed a joint venture to consult on a variety of international projects.”
Dawson is managing partner of Hatfield & Dawson Consulting Engineers in Seattle. Rackley is partner in the engineering firm of du Treil, Lundin & Rackley in Sarasota, Fla.
TV winner Merrill Weiss is a consultant in electronic media technology and management. He’s considered an expert in new television technologies, including digital video compression and conducted experiments that led to the first digital television standard in 1981.
