Dennis Swanson Receives Golden Mike Award

Fundraiser nets over $250k for Broadcasters Foundation of America

Hundreds of radio and television broadcasters were in attendance earlier this week to honor Dennis Swanson with the 2012 Golden Mike Award at a black-tie fundraiser in downtown New York City. In addition to honoring Swanson, the event also raised approximately $250,000 for the Broadcasters Foundation of America.

As we’ve reported, the Broadcasters Foundation of America is a charity providing aid to those in the broadcasting industry affected by tragedy or unexpected loss.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Kara DioGuardi. The former “American Idol” judge performed songs she co-wrote as well as the song “Funny Honey” from the musical “Chicago.”

The Foundation also recognized Rick Buckley, its former treasurer and a longtime supporter who passed away unexpectedly this past July. A fund established in his name following his death has already raised approximately $50,000 in funds to help fellow broadcasters.
