Radio consultancy Jacobs Media, based in Southfield, Mich., has another side — a radio-oriented iPhone/iPod touch applications development division.
Newly released from that division, called jacAPPS, is an application devoted to the Detroit International Jazz Festival. The jazz festival will be taking place Sept. 4–7 in Detroit.
But where in Detroit? It’s still a big city after all. That’s where the app comes in. It lists scheduled events and using GPS and Google maps provides directions. Additional information leads to concessions, public restrooms, etc.
Fred Jacobs, president of Jacobs Media, said: “iPhone apps are a perfect complement for events like this one… Radio stations that sponsor music events and other festivals should be thinking about how to enhance the experience for its listeners. The iPhone is an elegant solution that can be easily sponsored.”
