WCSX(FM), Detroit, is ready to fire up this year’s Stone Soup Project, a 1970 Pontiac Firebird, at Vinsetta Garage in Berkley, Mich., Aug. 14 at 9 a.m.
The Firebird was donated by the family of the late Gilbert Bunch of Livonia, who loved the Stone Soup Project and bought tickets for the raffle every year.
“It will be an honor to turn this car into an incredible show car, while raising money for Holy Cross Children’s Services in Detroit,” said morning show co-host Jim O’Brien in response to the offer.
Advance Auto Parts, Discount Tire, BASF, R-M Paint, Ice Nine Group, D&S Engine, Monihan’s Towing and many volunteers then donated their time to rebuild the classic car.
Trudi & Jim from “Classic Rock Mornings” on WCSX will broadcast live from the garage from 6–10 a.m., sponsored by DMC Heart Hospital. At 9 a.m. the car’s engine will start for the first time when Gilbert Bunch’s widow Valerie turns the key. Vinsetta Garage will serve coffee and breakfast, and listeners are encouraged to stop by for the remote.
Holy Cross Children’s Services will be on-site selling raffle tickets, which cost $10 each. Tickets are also available online.
The WCSX Stone Soup Project, inspired by the fable wherein everyone throws something in the pot, rebuilds a classic car from the ground up in order to raise money for a local charity. Cumulatively, WCSX has raised in excess of $1.2 million dollars for charities in Metro Detroit.
