After the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe issued a radio license to Zimpapers in March 2015, the company
officially launched its new regional commercial radio station, Diamond FM, on May 13 in Mutare.
Leander Kandiero is serving as the station manager for Diamond FM, which will broadcast in various Manyika dialects. In an interview with Zimbabwe newspaper The Herald, Zimpapers CEO Pikirayi Deketeke said that the launch of Diamond FM is part of the company’s five-year plan of expansion. The company previously launched Star FM and hopes to create other stations in additional cities.
“After we launched Star FM, we have seen a lot of development and since Diamond FM is for Mutare, we are planning to spread to other cities,” Beatrice Tonhodzayi, Zimpapers public relations and corporate affairs manager, told The Herald.
“To us this is a great move because radio and newspapers are the main sources of news.” Tonhodzayi also says that Zimpapers is looking into a television project.
Zimbabwe listeners will also be able to access Diamond FM through a mobile app.
