French-based Digigram intends to make the source code for its VX line of pro sound cards available under Open Source licensing. The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture driver developers at SuSE Linux AG of Germany will be managing the initial project to port Digi drivers to Linux.
This move will allow advanced users and programmers who need special functions to develop new solutions on their own.
The source code of the Mac OS X drivers and driver interface documentation will first be made available on the ASLA Project Web site, www.alsa-project.org. ASLA is the preferred professional audio driver standard for Linux and is incorporated into the Linux kernel and provides the foundation for several Linux-based audio applications.
