Digital Alliance Launches in France

Group promotes rapid advancement of digital terrestrial radio

Organizations associated with the launch of digital terrestrial radio in France, which officially took place June 20 in Paris, Marseille and Nice, have formed an alliance in order to promote the swift development of the technology and to inform the public about the standard.

According to Le Lettre Pro, the group is composed of the Syndicat Interprofessionnel des Radios et Télévisions Indépendantes (SIRTI), le Syndicat National des Radios Libres (SNRL) and the WorldDMB organization. They are also accepting additional members who wish to join.

The alliance calls upon the CSA, the High Council of Audiovisual, to publish the updated digital radio deployment schedule and to offer tenders for test cities, including Lyon and Nantes (which hosts experimental broadcasts), Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Strasbourg, where the organization says the “FM band offers no prospect” of increasing radio options.
