Digital Radio Summit Comes to Cape Town

Event promotes DRM in Africa

The Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium is a sector partner for the Southern African Broadcasting Association’s Digital Radio Broadcasting Summit in Cape Town. The event was held April 22–24.

The summit opened with a presentation from DRM Chair Ruxandra Obreja on the 22nd, and hosted a dedicated DRM workshop on the 23rd, described as “a detailed and practical look at [the DRM platform’s] superior functionalities and flexibility.”

The workshop offered a live demonstration of DRM30 with a two-hour BBC broadcast, from Ascension Island, a site managed by DRM member Babcock, to Southern Africa carrying BBC World Service English.

During and after the workshop, DRM representatives and South African DRM supporters were available explain the features and to answer questions.

The DRM Consortium had a presence last year at SABA events in Johannesburg, South Africa, and in Arusha, Tanzania.
