Comments to the FCC are due next Wednesday, June 16, in the Notice of Inquiry regarding digital copyright protection for digital radio. The Recording Industry Association of America is concerned that future interactive features on HD Radios will allow consumers to record music and later post it for anyone to download for free on the Internet or somehow gain access to songs before they're released in stores.
A congressional hearing planned for this week was cancelled due to former president Ronald Reagan's funeral. The RIAA is reportedly trying to get that hearing re-scheduled.
NAB and CEA have said the so-called "broadcast flag for radio" is unnecessary and would slow down the HD Radio rollout. Citizens should be allowed to record music for personal use, believes CEA.
