DRM Hosts Southern Africa Workshop

Future of Digital Radio event takes place Oct. 16–17

The Digital Radio Mondiale standard and recent digital radio tests in Southern Africa will be front and center, Oct. 16–17 at the Future of Digital Radio in Southern Africa Workshop.

The event, held at the Centurion Lake Hotel in Pretoria, will focus on the business of digital radio and take a look at the practical introduction of DRM. It will also highlight, says the organizers, how the solution can meet the needs of the various and varied Southern African markets by featuring live local trial transmissions and the possibility for participants to test the DRM equipment.

Representatives from Zambia, Mozambique, Lesotho and Botswana and from the South African government — Department of Communications, network operator Sentech, the public broadcaster SABC — along with manufacturers and community associations are expected to contribute to the event.

DRM launched the Southern Africa DRM Platform in Pretoria in June.
