Early EEO Reaction Muted

Reaction to the EEO proposal was mixed. While Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps voted with his Republican colleagues on the EEO proposal, he doesn’t think it goes far enough. “We can do better. We can push the envelope farther than this and still be within the safe harbor of legal and judicial boundaries.”
The Minority Media and Telecommunications Council stated: “Preventing discrimination and remedying its long-term effects, as well as promoting diversity, remain core FCC objectives.”
NAB is studying the proposal and said the Radio and TV boards would discuss it at the winter board meeting in January. NAB President/CEO Eddie Fritts stated: “NAB has always encouraged broadcasters to employ a diverse workforce, and our industry has sponsored many innovative programs to accomplish that goal.”
