Comments were relatively muted on engineering listservs among IBOC advocates and critics as the Sept. 14 date came.
“Propagation was average at best and nights are still too short,” one person wrote to Radio-Tech on broadcast.net. “The true result will be better known by December. I predict no immediate catastrophe.”
Another said, “I received HD carriers from WOR 710 New York, 760 WJR Detroit, 1100 WTAM and 1210 WPHT. I actually decoded WPHT for a while. The noise went away and so did the Cuban interference on 1210 (Cubans were huge this night. Most Chicago stations were covered up).”
A third wagged, “Hiss-hiss-buzz-buzz. Oh what a relief it is!”
