EAS Part of New FCC Office of Homeland Security

EAS Part of New FCC Office of Homeland Security

The FCC has created an Office of Homeland Security, the new home for EAS within the agency. The new division is part of the Enforcement Bureau. Thirty-one-year FCC veteran Jim Dailey heads up the office. The new office consolidates support for the homeland security and emergency preparedness responsibilities of the commission. The new office also combines support for the “defense commissioner,” – currently Chairman Michael Powell – the FCC’s Homeland Security Policy Council and the Enforcement Bureau.
The new office will take over the commission’s interactions with advisory panels for broadcast and telephone reliability and restoration should the nation again come under terrorist attack or when natural disasters strike.
Dailey’s most recent FCC stint was with the Enforcement Bureau and as an advisor to the FCC’s Homeland Security Policy Council.
