The European Broadcasters Union voted in a new vice president during its 72nd General Assembly in Naples.
Anna Maria Tarantola, president of Italian public service broadcaster and EBU member RAI, will lead the executive board alongside newly reelected President Jean-Paul Philippot. Philippot of Belgium’s RTBF will serve his fourth consecutive term.
Tarantola is a former director of the Bank of Italy. During her presidency at RAI since 2012, she has campaigned for better female representation on Italian television.
“I strongly believe in the role of the EBU and of public service media, which are vehicles for freedom, democracy, culture and ethical values,” said Tarantola. “In the difficult times we are experiencing, the role of PSM is more important than ever, but requires a strong capacity to innovate in the new technology sector.”
Philippot is charged with supporting the EBU’s mission to safeguard the role of public service media and promote its contribution to society.
