Ed Buterbaugh Is Remembered

Detroit-area engineer was former chief at legacy station WJR and widely known in engineering community.

Ed Buterbaugh, retired as CE from Detroit’s WJR(AM), has passed away from cancer at 65.

Art Vuolo Jr. reported on Michiguide.com that Buterbaugh spent 20 years at WJR, and oversaw the renovation to new studios in 1987.

Previously, while at CKLW, he masterminded the big sound and fine-tuned the signal from a cluster of five towers in Harrow, Ontario.

Buterbaugh’s funeral is set for today in Harrow, Ontario, Canada. Cards may be sent to his wife Pam at buter@xplornet.com.
