Emmis Gives Birth to ‘Baby Shares’

Emmis Communications will award one share of stock to babies born to full- and part-time employees. Adopted children also qualify.
That gift today is worth about $23.
The company already gives one share to each new employee.
“While that one share is unlikely to change anyone’s financial standing, we think it symbolizes our commitment to the idea that each employee should take ownership in the company and benefit from its success,” said CEO Jeff Smulyan. The company owns 21 U.S. radio stations and two radio networks plus other media holdings; it has 2,500 full-time and 550 part-time workers.
