Emmis Interactive Division Is Sold to Marketron

Jeff Haley continues to lead a makeover at Marketron

A notable business deal today in the world of digital and interactive tools for media companies. … Media software company Marketron has acquired Emmis Interactive and will add it to its Marketron Interactive business. The agreement includes Emmis’ BaseStation, GeoStation and Guidable brands.

Marketron Interactive offers data analytics and reporting products to media companies. According to the announcement, “Emmis Communications will continue as a core Marketron customer and retain an economic interest in Marketron’s success in expanding product and service offerings.”

Emmis said the sale will allow the company to focus on commercializing its FM analog/HD Radio smartphone application and Tagstation, the cloud-based engine that supplies data for the smartphone app and digital dashboards. Emmis SVP/CTO Paul Brenner leads the Tagstation design and software development.

Marketron President/CEO Jeff Haley and Emmis Communications Chairman/CEO Jeff Smulyan made the announcement.

In addition to the acquired technology, Marketron has retained the Emmis Interactive executive team “to continue the legacy of strong client relationships,” the companies stated. “Deborah Esayian and Rey Mena will bring their experience and client relationships to Marketron Interactive, as well as oversee the integration of Emmis Interactive’s assets and operations.”

It has been a busy year at Marketron. In April, Jeff Haley left RAB to join the company. In May, he reorganized its leadership. In September, according to several news reports, BlackRock Kelso Capital became majority owner (supplanting the Wicks Group, which owns Radio World publisher NewBay Media).
