Emmis Names Mayo to Head NYC Stations

Emmis Communications announced today that it has hired Barry Mayo as Senior Vice President/Marketing Manager of Emmis-New York, where he will oversee operations at Hot97, CD101.9 and Kiss FM.
Mayo has served as a consultant for Emmis WRKS since February. During the 1980s his positions ranged from Assistant Program Director of WXLO/WRKS to Program Director of WRKS to VP/GM of WRKS. In 1988 he co-founded Broadcasting Partners Incorporated (BPI), where he was President until 1995.
BPI, which went public in 1993, began as a five-station group that grew to 11 stations. He was also President/GM of WVAZ in Chicago at the same time. Since 1995 he has been president of Mayomedia, a media consulting company that specializes in advising clients on programming, format changed, sales, Internet programming and affiliate marketing
According to Emmis Radio President Rick Cummings, Mayo has been “an innovative programmer, a general manager for 12 years and an owner. He is a great strategist and his staffs have always loved working for him. He is a winner who will have immediate impact for Emmis.”
