Emmis New York Names SVP/Market Manager

Charlie Morgan will retain his role in New York for the long haul

Emmis Communications has tapped Charlie Morgan to serve as senior vice president and market manager for New York. He has served as the interim market manager for the cluster since January of this year. Emmis-New York consists of WBLS(FM), WLIB(AM) and WQHT(FM).

Newly named Emmis Indianapolis Market Manager Chuck Williams will also report to Morgan.

In 2007, Morgan joined the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as president and chief operating officer of Indianapolis Motor Speedway Productions. In 2009, he joined the Emmis team as SVP/market manager of Emmis-Indianapolis.

He has also served as a VP/market manager at Susquehanna Radio (now Cumulus), which includes WFMS/WJJK/WISG.

“When a 35+ year radio veteran can honestly call his most recent seven years the most fun and most rewarding of his career, you know you are talking to one very fortunate man,” Morgan said. “That statement is true for me thanks to the company and the culture that Jeff Smulyan, Rick Cummings and Pat Walsh have built and nourished at Emmis.”

Morgan is a member of the Country Music Association Board of Directors and serves as first vice chair/radio for the Indiana Broadcaster’s Association. He is also the past chairman of the Indianapolis 500 Festival. Morgan has won numerous awards in his career including the Country Music Association Air Personality of the Year and Radio Wayne Market Manager of the Year in 2010.

Emmis owns 19 FM and four AM radio stations in New York, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Austin (Emmis has a 50.1% controlling interest in Emmis’ radio stations located there), Indianapolis and Terre Haute, Ind. Emmis also developed and licenses TagStation and developed NextRadio.
