Engineer, Owner Elliot Klein Dies

He was in the business 45 years.

Elliott Klein, owner of Klein Broadcast Engineering and managing partner of Locally Owned Radio in Idaho, died Aug. 1; He was 61.

Klein was also a consulting engineer for Liberman Broadcasting and for Magic Broadcasting, and he most recently handled the engineering work on the All-Pro complaint of KATY(FM), Idyllwild, Calif. regarding alleged FM IBOC interference from CBS-owned KRTH(FM), Los Angeles; CBS disputes the interference allegations.

His colleague in the All-Pro case, attorney John Joseph McVeigh, said “Elliott was a gifted engineer. I had collaborated with him on a number of projects. He was always a pleasure to work with. I considered him not only a professional colleague, but also a friend.”

LARadio.com reports that Klein began as on-air talent and also doubled as the chief engineer for KRIZ(AM), Phoenix, in the early 1970s. In 1988, Buck Owens hired Elliott to build KNIX(FM), Phoenix, according to the site.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Klein worked in broadcasting 45 years, starting at age 14.
