Internal moves reflect programming shift

Entercom Communications Corp. today announced a series of promotions to WORD(FM) and ESPN Upstate in the Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C. market.

WORD on-air host Bob McLain has been upped to operations manager for WORD and ESPN Upstate. Entercom also announced that Mark Hendrix, operations manager and program director of Entercom’s classic rocker WROQ(FM) since 2001, has been named program director for ESPN Upstate.

“The addition of the ESPN brand to our already powerful cluster of stations allows Entercom to better serve the important male audience,” said Bob McLain. “I have worked with Mark Hendrix for more than a decade and his experience and knowledge will be invaluable as we turn ESPN Upstate into the dominant sports station in the market.” McLain has been with WORD since 2006 and his PM drive time show been a ratings leader ever since, a release said.

In February, ESPN Upstate debuted on the two AM signals formerly broadcasting WORD news/talk, with Bob McLain tasked to orchestrate the change. ESPN Upstate broadcasts on WORD(AM), WYRD(AM) and WFBC(FM HD3) and will stream at www.ESPNUpstate.com. It will also soon be on air at WEZV(FM).
