FCC Again Broaches Possible Receiver Standards

Focus is mostly on wireless receivers

The FCC is asking for public comments on potential receiver standards.

While its focus is mostly on wireless receivers, the topic could, potentially, include radio receivers as well.

The Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth blog notes the idea of receiver standards was “laid to rest” some six years ago, but has now been reopened.

The FCC’s Technological Advisory Committee released a white paper in February that basically “adds flexibility to the notion of ‘interference’ from a nearby band,” according to FHH, which says a similar GAO report includes a good primer on spectrum management.

The commission asks for comment on the TAC paper.

Federal Register publication triggered the comment dates; initial comments are due to ET Docket 13-101 by June 21 and replies by July 8.
