A proposed fine against Geneva Walker for not having an operational EAS system at WMAF(AM), Madison, Fla. has progressed to a forfeiture order.
The Tampa office of the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau originally levied the $8,000 last July. The station had been without working EAS equipment since 2010 and no log entries made about EAS tests being received or sent.
Walker admitted to the violations, according to the agency, but she told the commission she couldn’t pay.
Based on financial documentation Walker submitted, the agency cut the proposed fine to $3,000 and warned her that future violations may result in higher penalties that may not be reduced.
Walker told the commission the station now has working EAS equipment. She has 30 days to pay the penalty.
