Every four years the commission reviews its penalties for all violations to adjust for inflation. The new maximum penalty for broadcasters and cable operators is $32,500 per violation (up from $27,500) not to exceed $325,000 for repeated instances of the same violation.
The change goes into effect 30 days after Publication in the Federal Register. It applies to violations that occur after the effective date.
The broadcast penalties were last adjusted in 2000.
