Miami pirate Michael Gregory successfully proved he couldn’t pay a $10,000 fine, so the FCC cut the amount to $750.

However lack of funds is only one factor the agency takes into consideration when it establishes a fine amount.

The agency warned him that future pirate violations may result in larger fines that may not be reduced because of his financial circumstances.

The FCC originally fined Gregory $10,000 in 2012 for operating an unlicensed station on 92.7 MHz in Miami from his rented commercial suite.

He admitted operating the station but claimed he couldn’t pay such a high fine.

Gregory now has 30 days to pay the reduced amount.
