FCC Opens Settlement Window for FM Translator Applicants

Deadline closes June 30 for competing applicants to work out solution

The FCC has opened a settlement window related to certain FM translator auction applicants.

Applications that are part of four competing groups are subject to auction; they have not been included in previous settlement lists, says the commission.

The two-month settlement period closes June 30. By that time, applicants with proposals in the eight mutually exclusive applicants must enter settlements or somehow resolve their conflicts with engineering solutions.

“In the interest of expediting new FM translator service to the public, the commission will accept both universal — in which all applicants in the particular MX group participate — and nonuniversal settlements. Universal settlements, however, are encouraged. Nonuniversal settlement proposals must eliminate all mutual exclusivities between at least one application and all other applications in the MX group,” states the agency.

These applications stem from the 2003 FM translator application filing window.
