FCC Sets Agenda for Distracted Driving Workshop

Nov. 20 event to explore tech solutions, incentives to avoid this behavior

Representatives of wireless phone companies, the Consumer Electronics Association, driver safety groups, Ford and BlackBerry maker Research in Motion are scheduled to speak at the distracted driving workshop at the Federal Communication Commission.

The agency has released the agenda for the Nov. 20 event.

Two panels will discuss technologies that could play a role in reducing the risk of distracted driving, while the third panel will explore consumer incentives for reducing distracted driving.

So far, the issue seems confined to texting while driving, but as we’ve reported, some lawmakers believe any activity other than driving is a distraction, including using the radio.
