Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings can move over. The FCC has declared “The Howard Stern Show” a “bona fide news interview program,” making it exempt from the equal-time rules for political candidates. Parent company Infinity Broadcasting had asked for the designation so Stern could interview California gubernatorial candidates. Stern booked and then cancelled an interview with California gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger before the ruling. That’s when Infinity’s lawyers asked for a definitive ruling.
